The Valencian Community celebrates its day on 9 October, the anniversary of James I entering Valencia in 1238, and keeps Saint Joseph's Day. In 2027 it has 12 public holidays: the 9 shared by all of Spain and 3 of its own, St Joseph's Day (Friday 19 March), Easter Monday (Monday 29 March) and Valencian Community Day (Saturday 9 October). Like Catalonia, it does not give Maundy Thursday but does give Easter Monday, a day of "mona" cakes and countryside outings in Valencian towns; in 2026 it also had Saint John's Day. Local holidays for the towns of Alicante, Castellón and Valencia are published in the Official Journal of the Generalitat Valenciana. Valencia city celebrates Saint Vincent Martyr on 22 January and Saint Vincent Ferrer on the Monday after Easter Monday; Alicante, the Bonfires of Saint John; Castellón, La Magdalena in Lent; Elche, the Coming of the Virgin in December.

The Valencian Community has 542 municipalities in three provinces, and the regional employment department publishes their local holidays in the DOGV in a single resolution, usually in November or December. Many Valencian festivities revolve around fire, with the Fallas in March, the Alicante Bonfires in June and Castellón's Magdalena in Lent, and several depend on Easter, such as Saint Vincent Ferrer in Valencia, so they change date every year.

Changes from 2026

Valencian Community does not repeat all of its 2026 holidays (regional rule).

Common questions

Is 9 October 2027 a holiday in the Valencian Community?

Yes, but it falls on a Saturday, so it frees no working day. Three days later, on Tuesday 12, comes the National Day: booking Monday 11 gives a four-day weekend, Saturday 9 to Tuesday 12. Saint Joseph's Day, Friday 19 March, does fall on a working day.

How many working days does Valencian Community have in 2027?

Valencian Community counts 252 working days in 2027 before each town's two local holidays, which usually bring it to 250. April has the most (22) and January the fewest (19). The 3 holidays falling on a Saturday or Sunday (Labour Day, Valencian Community Day and Christmas Day) give no day off.

Which Valencian Community holidays change from 2026 to 2027?

Off the list: St John's Day (2026: Wednesday 24 June). Kept: St Joseph's Day, Easter Monday and Valencian Community Day. The holidays shared by all of Spain also move to another weekday: in 2027 1 May and 25 December fall on a Saturday and 15 August on a Sunday.
