Castile and León holds its regional holiday on 23 April, the anniversary of the 1521 battle of Villalar, where the Comuneros were defeated. In 2027 it has 12 public holidays: the 9 shared by all of Spain and 3 of its own, Maundy Thursday (Thursday 25 March), Castile and León Day (Friday 23 April) and Monday after Assumption Day (Monday 16 August). With nine provinces it is Spain's largest region, and its local holidays are published province by province in each provincial gazette. Valladolid celebrates San Pedro Regalado in May and the Virgin of San Lorenzo in September; Burgos, the Curpillos and Saints Peter and Paul in June; León, Saint John and San Froilán; Salamanca, the Virgin of La Vega in September. Castile and León keeps Maundy Thursday and, in 2027, Monday 16 August. 23 April 2027 falls on a Friday, with a long weekend.

Castile and León has 2248 municipalities, more than any other region, and each provincial labour office publishes its province's local holidays in the provincial gazette. The regional government also gathers them on its labour portal, province by province. In most villages the holidays are the patron saint's days in August or September, when they fill with people who live elsewhere, and in the capitals they match the fairs of Saint John, Saint Peter or the September Virgin.

Changes from 2026

Castile and León does not repeat all of its 2026 holidays (regional rule).

Common questions

Is Villalar Day a holiday in 2027?

Yes. 23 April, the Castile and León holiday, is a regional holiday in 2027 and falls on a Friday, so it leaves a three-day weekend. That day thousands gather in the field at Villalar de los Comuneros, in Valladolid province. The same day is a holiday in Aragon, for Saint George.

How many working days does Castile and León have in 2027?

Castile and León counts 251 working days in 2027 before each town's two local holidays, which usually bring it to 249. June has the most (22) and January the fewest (19). The 2 holidays falling on a Saturday or Sunday (Labour Day and Christmas Day) give no day off.

Which Castile and León holidays change from 2026 to 2027?

Off the list: Day after All Saints' Day (2026: Monday 2 November). Kept: Maundy Thursday, Castile and León Day and Monday after Assumption Day. The holidays shared by all of Spain also move to another weekday: in 2027 1 May and 25 December fall on a Saturday and 15 August on a Sunday.
