Everyone working in Spain gets 14 public holidays a year, but not the same ones everywhere: 9 apply nationwide in 2027, three or four are chosen by each region and two are set by each town council. That is why Seville's holiday calendar is not Bilbao's, and Getafe's is not exactly Madrid's. This page puts the three layers together for your town: the national and regional holidays the Directorate-General for Labour publishes each autumn in the Official State Gazette, the BOE (for 2027, on 13 October 2026), and the two local days published in the gazette of your region or province. The search covers 201 towns, the provincial capitals and the largest municipalities, and for each one cites the gazette, issue and date behind every holiday. If the 2027 local holidays are not out yet, it says so instead of guessing. It also counts the working days in each month, shows the next holiday with a countdown and builds an .ics file for your calendar; everything runs in your browser and nothing you type leaves your device.

Three layers of holidays, one answer
A town's holiday calendar is built from three texts that come out at different times. The first is the national list in Royal Decree 2001/1983: twelve holidays, nine of them fixed across Spain (New Year's Day, Good Friday, 1 May, 15 August, 12 October, 1 November, 6 and 8 December and Christmas Day) and three or four that each region may swap for its own: Maundy Thursday, 6 January, Saint Joseph or Saint James, and the Mondays after a Sunday holiday. The second is the yearly BOE resolution listing what each region decided. The third is each region's or province's local-holiday resolution, with two days per town.
None of the three answers the question you actually have: "which days am I off in my town?". The BOE carries a 19-column table with footnotes; local holidays come in annexes of hundreds of towns, sometimes in a different gazette. The search does that cross-referencing for you and shows the result as a list, in date order, with the weekday and the scope of each holiday.
2027 in four facts
First, 9 nationwide holidays, one more than in 2026: 1 November and 6 December fall on a Monday and join the list, while 15 August drops out by falling on a Sunday. Second, 1 May and 25 December are Saturdays and are not made up. Third, 15 August is a Sunday and 6 regions give Monday 16 off. Fourth, Easter is early: Maundy Thursday on 25 March, Easter Sunday on 28 March. The 2027 holiday calendar and Holy Week pages go into the detail.

Local holidays: where they are and when they come out
Each town council proposes its local holidays and the regional labour authority approves and publishes them. Some regions issue a single resolution covering every town, as in Andalusia, Madrid or Valencia; in others each province publishes them in its own gazette, as in Castile and León or Galicia. The 2026 ones have been read for 19 regions and autonomous cities, and the 2027 ones for 10. While a gazette is missing, the search says so and gives you the 12 holidays that are already certain. So Madrid has 12 holidays in 2027 while its two local days are pending, and Seville kept its 2026 local holidays on 22 April and 4 June.

Who decides each holiday
The government does not pick the holidays each year: a 1983 regulation sets them, Royal Decree 2001/1983, whose articles 45 to 47 are still in force. Article 45 lists the national holidays and lets regions replace some with traditional days of their own. Each region approves a decree with its holidays before 30 September and sends it to the Ministry of Labour, which publishes the whole set in the BOE. Article 37.2 of the Workers' Statute sets the ceiling: 14 holidays a year, two of them local.
Article 46 of the same decree gives each town up to two local holidays "traditionally its own". The town council proposes them and the competent labour authority, today the employment department of each region, confirms them. There is no common publication date: some regions do it in summer, others in December.
When a holiday falls on a Sunday
If a national holiday falls on a Sunday, the day off moves to the following Monday, unless the region prefers to use that slot for a holiday of its own. In 2027 it happens with 15 August: Andalusia, Aragon, Asturias, Canary Islands, Castile and León and Madrid region take Monday 16 off; the rest use the slot for another day. In 2026 it happened with 1 November and 6 December, hence Monday 2 November off in 9 regions and Monday 7 December in 10. A Saturday holiday is not moved: it is lost for anyone working Monday to Friday.
The Canaries, the Val d'Aran, Ceuta and Melilla
The Canary Islands have 11 shared holidays plus one for each island, set by a Canary government decree (for 2027, Decreto 115/2026, de 29 de junio (BOC de 3 de julio de 2026)): 2 February in Tenerife, 8 September in Gran Canaria or 15 September in Lanzarote, for example. The Val d'Aran, in Lleida, swaps one Catalan holiday for the Aran Festival on 17 June (Orden EMT/52/2026, de 25 de marzo (DOGC de 1 de abril de 2026)). Ceuta and Melilla include Eid al-Adha, whose date follows the lunar calendar and moves every year: 17 May in 2027.
Working days, leave and long weekends
On this site a working day is a Monday to Friday that is not a holiday in your town. That is the count used for leave entitlements and yearly working hours, although your collective agreement may count Saturdays. With those working days, the 2027 long weekends page places your leave where it goes furthest: a Tuesday between a Monday holiday and a Wednesday holiday gives five days off for one day of leave. The working days calculator also gives the theoretical hours in each month.
Easter, Carnival and other moving dates
Dates tied to Easter follow a fixed rule since 1582: Easter Sunday is the first Sunday after the full moon following the spring equinox, as set by church tables. This site uses the Meeus algorithm and checks it against the dates the BOE publishes: Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, Easter Monday and Corpus Christi match in 2026 and 2027. Carnival follows, 47 days before Easter, and Whitsun, 49 days after. Mother's Day follows another rule in Spain: the first Sunday of May. See also Carnival.
The clock change, twice a year
Summer time starts on the last Sunday of March and ends on the last Sunday of October, at 01:00 universal time, the same across the European Union. In 2026 the dates were 29 March and 25 October; in 2027 they are 28 March and 31 October, according to the Commission's Communication C/2026/1660. The clock change page has a live countdown and explains why it has not been scrapped.
Common questions
How many public holidays a year are there in Spain?
Fourteen at most, under article 37.2 of the Workers' Statute, paid and not made up. Each region sets twelve, starting from the national list in Royal Decree 2001/1983, and each town council picks two. A holiday on a Saturday is not moved; one on a Sunday is moved to Monday, or the region adds another day of its own instead.
Why is my calendar different from another town in my region?
Because the two local holidays belong to each town: Madrid keeps San Isidro and La Almudena, while Alcalá de Henares or Móstoles choose other days. The region's 12 holidays are the same across its territory, except in the Canary Islands, where each island adds its own, and in the Val d'Aran, which swaps one for the Aran Festival.
What if my town is not in the search?
Pick your region: you see its 12 holidays, which apply to you too. You will be missing your two local days, which appear in the yearly local-holiday resolution of your regional gazette or, in some provinces, the provincial gazette. Each region's page links that text. The search covers 201 towns and grows every year.
Is this an official source?
The data copies the official texts, but this site is not official: it is published by Radif Partners, with no link to any authority. Every date points to its source, the BOE for national and regional holidays and the regional or provincial gazette for local ones. If you spot a difference, send the gazette link and it gets fixed.
What happens if I work on a public holiday?
Article 47 of Royal Decree 2001/1983 requires the employer to pay the hours worked on a holiday with at least a 75% premium, unless you get compensatory time off. Many collective agreements improve on that minimum or set another day off. In shift sectors such as retail or hospitality, check the calendar your employer must display at the workplace.
When do the clocks change in Spain in 2027?
On Sunday 28 March 2027 summer time starts: 2:00 becomes 3:00 (1:00 becomes 2:00 in the Canary Islands). On Sunday 31 October 2027 winter time returns: 3:00 becomes 2:00. The 2027 to 2031 dates were published by the European Commission in Communication C/2026/1660.
Can I add the holidays to my own calendar?
Yes. Once you pick a town and year, press "Add to my calendar (.ics)": your browser builds a file with each holiday as an all-day event, which Google Calendar, Outlook or your phone can import. The file is made on your device without going through any server, and it does not update itself: if a holiday changes, download it again.
