Galicia has two great holidays of its own: 25 July, Galicia's National Day and Saint James, and 17 May, Galician Literature Day. In 2027 it has 12 public holidays: the 9 shared by all of Spain and 3 of its own, St Joseph's Day (Friday 19 March), Maundy Thursday (Thursday 25 March) and Galician Literature Day (Monday 17 May). Galician Literature Day recalls the publication of Rosalía de Castro's "Cantares gallegos" on 17 May 1863, and each year it honours a different writer. Galician towns' local holidays are published in the gazette of each of the four provinces. Santiago de Compostela celebrates the Ascension; A Coruña, Our Lady of the Rosary in October; Vigo, the Reconquest in March; Lugo, San Froilán in October. In 2027 25 July falls on a Sunday, and the regional government has put Galician Literature Day, a Monday, on the list.

Galicia has 313 municipalities, and the regional government publishes their local holidays in the Official Journal of Galicia in a single resolution, sorted by province. Carnival Tuesday, the Entroido, is a local holiday in many of them, as is Ash Wednesday in Pontevedra. Dates tied to Easter, such as the Entroido or the Ascension in Santiago, change every year, so the 2027 list does not repeat 2026 even when the names are the same.

Changes from 2026

Galicia does not repeat all of its 2026 holidays (regional rule).
