Cantabria has two holidays of its own: 28 July, Institutions Day, and 15 September, La Bien Aparecida, its patron saint. In 2027 it has 12 public holidays: the 9 shared by all of Spain and 3 of its own, Maundy Thursday (Thursday 25 March), Cantabria Institutions Day (Wednesday 28 July) and La Bien Aparecida (Wednesday 15 September). Institutions Day recalls the 1778 meeting at Puente San Miguel that gave rise to the province of Cantabria. La Bien Aparecida is venerated at a shrine in Hoz de Marrón, in Ampuero. Cantabrian towns' local holidays are published in the Official Gazette of Cantabria: Santander picked Our Lady of the Sea and Saint James in 2026, and Torrelavega Saint Roch, during its Virgen Grande festivities, and Saint Cyprian. In 2027 both regional holidays fall on a Wednesday, good for a five-day break booking two days.

Cantabria has 102 municipalities and a single province, so local holidays come out in one resolution of the Official Gazette of Cantabria, usually at the end of the year. On the coast, summer festivities coincide with the arrival of visitors, while inland valleys favour Saint Roch, the August Virgin or Saint James. As Cantabria does not give Easter Monday, its Easter break stays at four days, from Maundy Thursday to Easter Sunday.

Long weekends in 2027 in Cantabria
In 2027 Cantabria has two holidays of its own on a Wednesday, 28 July and 15 September, and each gives five days in a row by booking the two days before. With 22 working days of leave, putting four of them into those two breaks gives ten days off between summer and early autumn. Unlike neighbouring Asturias and Castile and León, Cantabria does not give Monday 16 August, so the 15th, a Sunday, is not made up.

The 2027 ones are not published yet (checked on 28 October 2026), so this list gives the 2026 ones, from BOC 11 December 2025. They tend to repeat, but those tied to Easter or falling on a Sunday change date.

School calendar 2026-2027 in Cantabria
The 2026-2027 school year in Cantabria is set by the rules published in the BOC on 21 April 2026. Primary school starts on Tuesday 8 September 2026 and ends on Wednesday 23 June 2027; secondary starts on Wednesday 9 September. The Christmas break runs from 23 December to 10 January and the Easter break from 22 March to 28 March, both inclusive.
