The Madrid region celebrates its holiday on 2 May, recalling the 1808 uprising against Napoleon's troops. In 2027 it has 12 public holidays: the 9 shared by all of Spain and 3 of its own, St Joseph's Day (Friday 19 March), Maundy Thursday (Thursday 25 March) and Monday after Assumption Day (Monday 16 August). In 2027 2 May falls on a Sunday and the region does not move it: instead it keeps Saint Joseph's Day, Friday 19 March, and Monday 16 August, which replaces the 15th. Local holidays for its 179 towns are published in the Official Gazette of the Madrid Region in a single resolution. Madrid city celebrates San Isidro on 15 May and La Almudena on 9 November; Alcalá de Henares, the Holy Children in August; Móstoles, San Isidro and Our Lady of the Saints in September.

Many workers in the Madrid region live in one town and work in another, and that matters: the local holidays that count are those of the workplace, not your home. So someone living in Alcalá de Henares and working in Madrid city gets San Isidro off, but not the Holy Children. Schools, on the other hand, follow their own town's local holidays, so children may have a day off that their parents do not.
