Ceuta honours its patron saint, Our Lady of Africa, on 5 August and, with Melilla, is the only place in Spain with a Muslim public holiday: Eid al-Adha. In 2027 it has 12 public holidays: the 9 shared by all of Spain and 3 of its own, Maundy Thursday (Thursday 25 March), Eid al-Adha (Monday 17 May) and Our Lady of Africa (Thursday 5 August). Eid al-Adha follows the Islamic lunar calendar and moves about eleven days earlier each year: in 2026 it fell on 27 May and in 2027 it falls on 17 May. The autonomous city sets its holidays by decree and publishes them in the Official Gazette of the City of Ceuta, which also carries the local holidays. Ceuta is a single municipality, so the city's holidays and its local ones are decided at the same level: in 2026 its two local days were the end of Ramadan, 20 March, and Saint Anthony, 13 June. That year it also had Ceuta Day, 2 September.

In Ceuta several calendars coexist: the work calendar, the school calendar of the Ministry of Education, which runs schools in the city directly, and the celebrations of each religious community, which are not always holidays. As Muslim holidays depend on sighting the moon, the official date may differ by a day from the actual celebration, and the decree fixes it in advance so that employers and workers can plan.
