Aragon's own holiday is 23 April, Saint George, its patron saint and Aragon Day, which coincides with World Book Day. In 2027 it has 12 public holidays: the 9 shared by all of Spain and 3 of its own, Maundy Thursday (Thursday 25 March), St George's Day / Aragon Day (Friday 23 April) and Monday after Assumption Day (Monday 16 August). Aragon's three provinces, Zaragoza, Huesca and Teruel, publish their towns' local holidays every year in the Official Gazette of Aragon. Zaragoza honours its patron Saint Valerius on 29 January and the Cincomarzada on 5 March, because the Pillar, 12 October, is already the National Day. Huesca has Saint Vincent in January and Saint Lawrence in August, and Teruel the Vaquilla del Ángel festivities in July. In 2027 23 April is a Friday and makes a long weekend.

Aragon has 731 municipalities in three provinces, many with only a few hundred people, and the labour authority gathers them in a single BOA resolution, sorted by province and district. In small villages the local holidays are usually the patron saint's days in summer, when people who live elsewhere come back. Zaragoza, where more than half of Aragon's population works, also has the Pillar festivities in October, which coincide with the National Day and fill the week of the 12th without using up its local quota.

Changes from 2026

Aragon does not repeat all of its 2026 holidays (regional rule).

Long weekends in 2027 in Aragon

In Aragon, 2027 offers two three-day weekends without using leave: Saint George's Day, falling on Friday 23 April, and Monday 16 August. With Holy Week, which here starts on Maundy Thursday, March and April come almost back to back. In Zaragoza, Pillar week, with the National Day on Tuesday 12 October, invites you to book Monday 11 for four days off. The 2027 local holidays will be published in the BOA, probably in November, like the 2026 ones.

  • St George's Day / Aragon Day, Friday 23 April: 3 days off in a row without taking leave.
  • Monday after Assumption Day, Monday 16 August: 3 days off in a row without taking leave.

Common questions

Is 23 April 2027 a holiday in Aragon?

Yes. Saint George's Day, Aragon Day, is a regional holiday in 2027 and falls on a Friday, so there is a three-day weekend from 23 to 25 April. The same day is a holiday in Castile and León, for Villalar. Elsewhere in Spain 23 April is World Book Day, which is not a holiday.

How many working days does Aragon have in 2027?

Aragon counts 251 working days in 2027 before each town's two local holidays, which usually bring it to 249. June has the most (22) and January the fewest (19). The 2 holidays falling on a Saturday or Sunday (Labour Day and Christmas Day) give no day off.

Which Aragon holidays change from 2026 to 2027?

Off the list: Day after All Saints' Day (2026: Monday 2 November). Kept: Maundy Thursday, St George's Day / Aragon Day and Monday after Assumption Day. The holidays shared by all of Spain also move to another weekday: in 2027 1 May and 25 December fall on a Saturday and 15 August on a Sunday.
