How this holiday calendar is made
Independent, non-governmental site
Every tool runs in your browser: what you search for or type is neither sent nor stored. Dates come from official texts read by hand, and those that follow a rule are computed with tested functions. Last reading: 28 October 2026.
National and regional holidays
They come from the Directorate-General for Labour's yearly resolution: the 2027 one and the 2026 one. We read the BOE's XML version and turn the table, column by column, into a list of holidays per region, following the notes that separate fixed national days, national days the region keeps and the region's own. A program checks that each region adds up to 12 holidays, 11 in the Canaries plus one per island, and that no regional holiday falls on a Sunday. The Canary island holidays come from the Canary government's decree (Decreto 115/2026, de 29 de junio (BOC de 3 de julio de 2026) for 2027), and the Val d'Aran swap from the Catalan government's order (Orden EMT/52/2026, de 25 de marzo (DOGC de 1 de abril de 2026)).
Local holidays
Each region, or each province, publishes a resolution with every town's two holidays, under article 46 of Royal Decree 2001/1983. We read them in that gazette and copy them with the issue, date and the day we read them; we also check later corrections. We cover 201 towns: the 50 provincial capitals, Ceuta, Melilla and the most populous municipalities in the municipal register as of 1 January 2025. Own elaboration with data extracted from the INE website: www.ine.es. The 2026 local holidays have been read for 19 regions and autonomous cities and the 2027 ones for 10. When a gazette is not out yet, the site says "not yet out" and never fills in last year's dates.
Working days and long weekends
A working day is a Monday to Friday that is not a holiday in the chosen place; Saturdays are counted separately, since they depend on the collective agreement. Long weekends are found in two steps: first the runs of consecutive days off (weekends and holidays), then the gaps of one to five working days joining two runs. With your leave days, a dynamic-programming search picks the set of gaps giving the most consecutive days off, with no two breaks overlapping and without exceeding the days you have. On a tie, the one using fewer days wins.
Dates that follow a rule
Easter is computed with the Meeus algorithm for the Gregorian calendar; Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, Easter Monday, Carnival (47 days before), Whitsun and Corpus Christi (60 days after) follow from it. The tests compare the result with the 2026 and 2027 BOE. The clock change follows Directive 2000/84/EC and Royal Decree 236/2002: last Sunday of March and of October, at 01:00 universal time. The 2022 to 2026 dates are tested against Order PCM/186/2022 and the 2027 to 2031 ones against Communication C/2026/1660.
Countdown
The counter uses your device's clock and time zone. A holiday starts at 00:00 your local time; the clock change happens at a universal instant, which the counter converts into your time. If your clock is wrong, so is the counter.
Limits
The site does not know your collective agreement or your employer's calendar, which may set personal days, closures or shifts. Local festivities that are not public holidays, such as a district's, are not shown. Outside the 201 towns in the search you see the region's 12 holidays without the two local ones.
Updates
We read the BOE and the gazettes again every autumn, when next year's holidays come out, and whenever someone reports a change. If you spot an error, write to us from the contact page; how we correct is in the editorial policy.
