Asturias celebrates its day on 8 September, the feast of Our Lady of Covadonga, patron saint of the Principality. In 2027 it has 12 public holidays: the 9 shared by all of Spain and 3 of its own, Maundy Thursday (Thursday 25 March), Monday after Assumption Day (Monday 16 August) and Asturias Day (Wednesday 8 September). Asturian towns' local holidays are published in the Official Gazette of the Principality of Asturias. Oviedo celebrates the Martes de Campo and San Mateo in September, Gijón its Antroxu carnival and Saint Peter, and Avilés Easter Monday and Saint Augustine. Asturias also keeps Maundy Thursday and, in 2027, Monday 16 August because the 15th falls on a Sunday. 8 September 2027 is a Wednesday: booking Monday 6 and Tuesday 7 gives five days in a row.

Asturias has 78 municipalities, fewer than many provinces, and its organisation into parishes explains an oddity: some, such as Siero, set different holidays for each parish, so two neighbours in the same municipality may have different days off. The Principality publishes the next year's local holidays earlier than almost any other region, in early summer, so the 2027 ones are already known. If you work in one municipality and live in another, the workplace is what counts.
